Meet The First Woman From Jammu & Kashmir To Qualify For AIIMS

Her family wants her to become a successful doctor and serve the people of the region and country

Irmim Shamim became the first woman from Jammu & Kashmir to qualify for All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after she cleared the MBBS entrance exam.

Hailing from Rajouri district and belonging to the region’s Gujjar Muslim community, Shamim used to walk 10 km every day to school due to the lack of good schools in her village. Her family also had to struggle with financial difficulties. Now Shamim’s family wants her to become a successful doctor and serve the people of the region and country.

She told ANI,

“Everyone has some problem in their life. You have to fight the challenges and success will definitely come to you.”

Shamim’s uncle Liaqat Chaudhary said,

“The girls of Jammu and Kashmir have shown their talent in every field of life on national and international levels.”

She joins the ranks of female pioneers from Kashmir including Nahida Manzoor who became first female Everester and Jasia Akhtar — the first female cricketer.
