As many as 2.20 lakh students appeared for the JEE Advanced exam this year, however, only 1.7 lakh took the exam. For the first time ever, IITs also held the test in other countries too and the six centres to choose from were Singapore, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Ethiopia and the UAE. In 2017, IITs gave 11 marks extra to the students who took the exam. The step was taken to compensate for the three ‘ambiguous’ questions that were asked in the JEE (Advanced) exam.
