Metro services to be shut in Delhi from Sunday night for Jat protests, heavy traffic expected

Delhities brace yourself for Monday Blues as the metro service in NCR will be terminated from Sunday night because of Jat protests

Brace yourself to experience a panic monday as the officials have reportedly imposed restriction on metro services from Sunday night. The commuters are expected to face difficulties in travelling on Monday as the metro stations will remain shut due to the Jat protest march.

Additionally, a major traffic snarl is also expected in the national capital with the authorites taking precautions to avoid violence by shutting down most of central Delhi. Accoring to several media reports, operations in 12 metro stations are likely to be terminated. The major metro stations that are expected to face a lockdown include Rajiv Chowk, Khan market, Barakhambha Road, Janpath, Mandi House, Pragati Maidan and Udyog Bhawan.

The Delhi Police have asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to shut down rail services from March 19 11:30 PM.Reports suggest that heavy security across the national capital is also going to lead to massive traffic making it difficult for office-goers and students appearing for their board examd difficult to make it to their destination.

Jat leaders who have demanding reservation in jobs and education had affirmed that they block Delhi borders if their demands are not fulfilled.

“We will block Delhi and its borders on March 20 if our demands are not met. Jat Nyay Dharna is being held at Jantar Mantar to seek justice for the community members in Haryana and highlight our quota demand. Movement will continue till our demands are met, Government has to find solutions,” Yashpal Malik, All India Jat Reservation Agitation Committee said.

Besides seeking quota in education and government jobs under Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, the demands of the Jats include the release of those jailed during last year’s agitation, the withdrawal of cases that were slapped during the protest and the government jobs for the kin of those killed and injured while taking part in the stir.
