Three Army men were on Thursday killed in a terrorist attack at an Army camp in Kupwara in Jammu and Kashmir. Reports suggest that five others have also been injured in the attack. Two terrorists have been killed and combing operations are underway.
The injured have been rushed to Srinagar for medical assistance, some of whom are said to be in a critical condition. Among those martyred include a Junior Commissioner Officer and other jawans. Reports also suggest that the toll is expected to rise.
The attack took place around 4 am on Thursday morning at Panjgaon at Chowkibal. The militants believed to be associated with terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad attacked the camp which is in-charge of road opening duties on the crucial roads in the area.
In a statement on Thursday, the Army said: “Terrorists attacked an Army garrison in Panzgam. Two terrorists have been killed. Three soldiers, including an officer, have been killed. A search operation is underway.”
The base is nearly 100kms away from the Army camp in Uri which was attacked on September 17, 2016 in which 19 soldiers were killed. It was in retaliation to that the attack that India had carried out surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC).
Home Minister Rajnath Singh will be holding a meeting to review security in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday and the early morning attack is likely to be taken up for assessment in the same. Home Ministry officials are likely to be attending the high-level meeting.
