Ravindra Gaikwad, the Shiv Sena MP from Osmanabad in Maharashtra, was the active participant in a shocking incident on March 24 when he hit a staff of Air India flight 25 times with his shoes. As it turns out, he is not new to controversies.
Gaikwad also made headlines in 2014 when he was unhappy with the quality of food served to him in Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi. He allegedly tried to put food in the mouth of a caterer who was keeping fast during Ramzan. There were some other MP’s with him when the incident had taken place and all of them later refused having forced food in the mouth of the supervisor.
Not only this, going by his past records, several other charges have also been slapped against Gaikwad—some of which include, culpable homicide not amounting to murder under IPC Section-304, two charges under section 341 of IPC for wrongful restraint, and a charge under section 337 of IPC for endangering the life of others.
Gaikwad, who remained unapologetic on the incident, said: “I dare Delhi Police to arrest me. I will not apologise.” Meanwhile, he has been blacklisted by the Air India and the Federation of Indian Airlines which has Jet Airways, IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir as its members. This is the first time when Air India has blacklisted someone due to the unruly behaviour of the passenger, however, many international carriers in past have taken such step in order to ensure proper safety and security.
After the incident snowballed into a major controversy, Shiv Sena President, Uddhav Thackeray has asked for the clarification from the MP for his unruly behaviour.
