Modi versus Yogi Adityanath: Twitter sees a competition there

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the poll campaign had promised that if BJP comes to power it would waive off farmer's loan

As promised by the BJP in their election manifesto, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on April 4 waived off farmer loan worth Rs 36,000 crore in the first cabinet meeting. In a big relief to farmers, the UP CM decided that 5,000 wheat purchasing centres will be formed across UP where they will able to sell their crops directly to the centres without any middlemen. They will only have to show their land sowing papers or Aadhar cards.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the poll campaign has promised that if BJP comes to power it would waive off farmer’s loan.

As per the government release, “Out of 2.30 crore farmers in the state, approximately 2.15 crore have land holdings between one and five acres. About 86.68 lakh of them are estimated to have taken crop loans from banks and they would be benefited.”

The decision came after a 90-minute meeting, where as per Cabinet minister Siddharth Nath Singh, a proposal on illegal slaughterhouses was also discussed. He said that 26 illegal slaughterhouses haven been shut in the state till now.

Marginal farmers are those who have land holdings of less than one hectare or 2.5 acre whereas those farmers who have land holdings of 1-2 are small farmers. Because of crop failure, the farmers in state could not pay their loans.

However, the decision has invoked mixed reactions from people.
