Kolkata’s ‘Pad Man’ is a 21-year-old student who is pursuing his Masters degree. Sobhan Mukherjee realised that menstruation is still a taboo topic in the country and the discomfort faced by women, who suddenly get their periods while travelling.
Mukherjee first started putting sanitary pads on tables at the toilets in South Kolkata’s Bansdroni areas.
But has now graduated to putting them in boxes in five such toilets around Bansdroni. Mukherjee hopes that with permission and funding, 50 toilets can offer sanitary napkins soon.
