A man in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district received Rs. 500 currency notes without Mahatma Gandhi’s image when he withdrew money from an SBI ATM on April 29. Gowardhan Sharma received four counterfeit Rs 500 notes from a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM.
After this, Sharma when to the security guard and showed him the notes. Then he called on the phone numbers available at the ATM and informed about it.
However, the State Bank of India officials assured later that the notes are good but probably there was printing mistake with them and they would be replaced after being sent to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

There have been various instances when people have received currency notes from which Gandhiji’s image was missing from ATMs.
Earlier, SBI issued the farmers in Madhya Pradesh Rs 2000 currency notes without Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait on it.
Some of the farmers who received such notes did not take note of something missing on it but were only notified by the market vendors. After which, they approached the bank and questioned the authenticity of the new currency notes.
Every note that the Reserve Bank of India issues will have Mahatma Gandhi’s portrait printed on it. All the bank notes carry Mahatma Gandhi’s water mark and portrait on the front side.
