Moved by the severe destruction by flooding in Kerala, Anupriya gave away Rs 9,000 that she had saved for a bicycle

While devastating floods ravaged ‘God’s Own Country’, claiming over 200 lives, several individuals came to the aid of Kerala, including one nine-year-old Anupriya. A resident of Villupuram in Tamil Nadu, she relinquished her piggy-bank savings from the last four years, contributing it to the welfare of Kerala flood victims.

Moved by the severe destruction by flooding in Kerala, Anupriya gave away Rs 9,000 that she had saved for a bicycle. “I have been saving money for a cycle. But when I saw visuals of Kerala flood on TV, I decided to donate the money,” she told reporters.

Her selfless gesture came to the notice of a cycle manufacturer, Hero Cycles, that has now decided to gift the girl a cycle. Reportedly, the girl will get a new bicycle every year. Hero Cycles tweeted:

Munjal later shared a picture of Anupriya seated comfortably on her brand new bicycle.

Earlier, a Kochi brother-sister duo — Haroon and Diya — broke their piggy-banks and donated all their savings to the Chief Minister’s flood relief fund. Reportedly, the siblings had been saving up for two years to buy a study table. Their mother, Fathima Siddique, wrote in a Facebook post, “The total money amounts Rs 2210. I know it’s not a huge amount but they have done their part and we have decided to donate the money to CMDRF.”

In another act of kindness, Hanan Hamid, the college girl from Kerala who was trolled for selling fish, donated an amount of Rs 1.5 lakh to flood victims. Hamid confirmed that the amount is what she had received from well-wishers after her picture went viral earlier this month. Speaking to The News Minute, Hamid said, “I am merely giving back what I received from the people. Now they are all suffering and it is the least I can do.”

Over 200 people have lost their lives in what has been the worst-ever flood in Kerala in a century. According to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the floods have caused great loss to the state, amounting to Rs 19,512 crores.
