Will decide on future CM after Assembly polls, says Mulayam

Mulayam Singh Yadav said outsiders were trying to defame Amar Singh.

Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday said Akhilesh Yadav will remain chief minister of Uttar Pradesh as of now. “There is no intention to replace Akhilesh. We will decide on future CM after the Assembly elections,” the party boss told reporters while addressing a press conference in Lucknow.  While his younger brother sat beside him, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav was not present during interaction with the media.

“It is true that the majority in 2012 polls was attained with my name. But we made Akhilesh the chief minister. Now it is upto him to carry out his responsibilities,” he added.

When asked whether Shivpal and other three sacked ministers will be reinstated into the cabinet, Mulayam said the decision lay with the chief minister.

Mulayam did not lose an opportunity to vow his support to Amar Singh, saying the Rajya Sabha MP was being dragged into the issue. “Outsiders are defaming Amar Singh,” he said. The former defence minister also lashed out at his cousin and expelled leader Ramgopal Yadav, asking  not to give importance to him. Earlier in the day, there were reports of a truce between the chief minister and his uncle. It is believed that Shivpal along with three other sacked ministers will be reinstated in the cabinet.

Monday witnessed intense drama during the Samajwadi Party meet chaired by Mulayam at the headquarters in Lucknow. Akhilesh in his speech broke down as he denied any intention of floating a new party, opting to resign whenever his father wished. He also accused Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh and others of hatching a conspiracy against him. Later, the SP patriarch not only chided his son but also swore his support to both Shivpal and Amar Singh. The party chief dismissed his son as an insignificant entity in Uttar Pradesh and questioned his ability to win elections. He asked Akhilesh to hug his uncle and patch-up. However, his efforts for a reconciliation were ruined when his son and younger brother entered into a heated argument.

Outside the party headquarters, supporters of Akhilesh and Shivpal clashed against each other. Later, both the uncle and nephew drove in the same car to Mulayam’s residence. Earlier today, Shivpal denied that there was a rift within the Yadav family.
