Panic ensued when the pilot from a private airlines alerted Mumbai airport officials after he witnessed a drone. The airport was immediately put on a security alert and the airport’s Area Traffic Control (ATC) immediately informed the police. The inputs were also sent to the Intelligence Bureau, Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Crime Branch and the Special Branch of Mumbai Police, PTI reported.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when an Indigo Airlines pilot Ashish Ranjan said that his attention was drawn towards a drone spotted 100 metres below the aircraft while landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
The intelligence agencies have cautioned that terrorists might use such objects to carry out attacks in the city. Besides this, drones, paragliders and remote-controlled objects have also been prohibited in the skies.
