A 24-year-old chartered accountant belonging to an affluent Jain family has renounced his wealth to become a monk. Mokshesh Sheth stood to inherit his family business worth 100 crore but he has instead chosen to give up all earthly possessions and aspirations to lead an austere, spiritual existence.
Sheth, the eldest son of Mumbai-based businessman Sandip Seth, took Diksha at a ceremony held in Gandhinagar on Friday. His family is into aluminium business and Mokshesh handled the operations after becoming a chartered accountant in his first attempt.
“Mokshesh ran the business successfully and the turnover (at present) reached over Rs 100 crore,” his uncle Girish Sheth told PTI.

The 24-year-old believes that rather than the bank balance, it’s the balance of virtue that needs to be increased. ”If money could buy everything, all rich people would have happy. Eternal happiness is not in getting something but leaving something. After becoming CA, I spend two years in business but realized that I have to increase the balance of virtue in the balance sheet of myself and that’s why I have decided to take diksha and become Jain monk,” Ahmedabad Mirror quoted him as saying.
On Thursday, 12-year-old Bhavya Shah, who hailed from a wealthy family of diamond merchants also embraced monkhood. Talking to reporters before becoming a Jain monk, Bhavya said he was happy to leave behind his luxurious life.”My parents have taught me that one should lead a life of truth. For the same, I am happy to renounce the world. I also know that my parents are happy with my decision,” he said.
