Around 120 students from the Burhani Foundation, South Mumbai – MSB Mumbai, Saifiyah High School, Taiyebiyah High School and Rawdat Al Quran – participated in PM Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan by painting the walls with social awareness messages opposite to Charni Road Railway Station.
In the cleaning drive which went on for two hours on Monday, the walls were divided into four blocks, one for each school. Students painted two of blocks in the ‘Save Trees’ theme. Ironically, the South Mumbai Metro Project had already cut down the trees in the locality a few months ago.
Burhanuddin Vakharia, a student from Saifiyah School said, “Our world is tormented by global warming and planting trees is the only solution. There are 53 hands in our painting and also a message to save trees. I want to contribute to Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan in some way and this is my little contribution.”
Another student Murtaza Kalimi added, “I participated in the initiative with my school friends. We all should be more responsible when it comes to keeping the city clean.”
Taikhoom Mohiyuddin, a spokesperson from The Burhani Foundation India iterated, “The wall painting drive undertaken by children is a humble attempt in our direction to save Mother Earth. I am sure this will inspire and teach our fellow citizens the importance of environment awareness and its benefits to the overall health of living beings”. The messages on the wall included ‘Save our Planet’, ‘I Love Nature’, ‘Do Not Spit’, ‘Keep Clean and Use Dustbin’, among others.
