A 17-year-old gang-rape survivor was kidnapped and raped by two autorickshaw drivers in Mumbai. The victim was reportedly suffering from a psychological disorder and was allegedly kidnapped and raped by five people in October last year.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the autorickshaw drivers have been arrested by the police. The minor, who lives with her parents at Dindoshi, went missing on Saturday evening — two days before the identification parade in the October rape case.

The family searched for her in the vicinity and also at their relatives’ homes, but didn’t find her. They registered a missing person complaint with the Dindoshi police on Sunday. The girl left home in the evening when her parents were away. She was picked up by two auto drivers, who allegedly raped her several times.

The victim returned home on July 19 after which the police recorded her statement and registered a case of kidnapping and rape against unidentified people, suggested the HT report.

“Several police teams were formed to nab the suspects. All officers of Dindoshi police station and their counterparts in neighbouring areas were alerted. Within 24 hours, we managed to arrest the two drivers from Kandivli,” said Vinay Rathod, DCP, Zone XII.

The October 2016 gang rape came to light after the girl complained of abdominal pain. She was taken to a hospital where it was discovered that she was pregnant. Taking advantage of the girl’s mental illness, five men from neighbourhood took her near the railway tracks and raped her. They had also allegedly raped her in an autorickshaw for more than a week.

The Dindoshi police arrested all five men who are now in judicial custody. The family alleged the five arrested men might have played a role in Saturday’s kidnapping.
