Muslim law board's call for boycotting abusers of triple talaq is a hoax, says Javed Akhtar

AIMPLB general secretary, Maulana Wali Rehmani on Sunday said that those who will pronounce triple talaq without sharia reasons will face social boycott

Renowned Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar lashed out at All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) after they called for boycotting abusers of triple talaq and asserted that it was nothing but “hoax” as Triple talaq itself is an abuse and it should be “banned” and that AIMPLB was only trying to stall it.

“What is the meaning of ‘misuse of triple talaq’. Tomorrow we may hear of misuse of molestation. Misuse of rape misuse of wife beating”, wrote Akhtar on Twitter.

The statement is made by Akhtar after AIMPLB general secretary Maulana Wali Rehmani on Sunday said the Muslim law board has decided to issue a code of conduct and has given warning that those who will pronounce talaq without Islamic law reasons will have to go through social boycott.

Rehmani said, “A code of conduct for talaq is being issued. With its help, the real picture of Shariat directives will be brought out on the talaq issue. If talaq is given without Shariat reasons, those involved will be socially boycotted,”

Opposing triple talaq, last year the Central government took the issue to the Supreme Court and asked the apex court to give the decision in order to maintain gender equality. The constitutional bench of SC will begin hearing in the triple talaq issue from May 11.
