Amid uproar over cow vigilantism and cow protection, a Muslim father gifting a ow as a special wedding gift to his daughter has now come to fore. It was gifted by the father during the ‘nikah’ ceremony at Kharkhodda village of Sonipat district in Haryana.
According to the Times of India report, Noor Khan, the father of the bride, gifted a cow to his daughter Gulshana as a wedding gift, as his daughter loves them since childhood. She used to offer bread and jaggery to any cow that she came across.
Noor Khan gave his daughter a calf of a desi breed, which cost him anything between Rs 11,000 and 15,000. Once Gulshana had even requested her father to keep a cow at home, however, due to lack of space in his house, the family wasn’t able to keep one.
The father had then promised to give his daughter a cow as a wedding gift. He kept his word on April 10.
It is possibly the first such instance in Haryana where a Muslim man has gifted something like this as a wedding gift to his daughter. Gulshana, who is too happy with her father’s gift, said that she will take good care of the calf at her in-laws’ house.
Khan’s friends have also lauded the move. According to the report, a friend of Khan said that the government launches several welfare schemes related to cow protection but they are not effective. He suggested that people should follow Khan’s step and should start gifting cows in marriages.
Praising the initiative, Sant Gopal Dass, who was one of the invitees at Gulshana’s wedding, said religious scriptures espouse communal harmony. He said that if a Muslim family can take this initiative then others too should follow the suit.
