Muslims change wives to quench their sexual appetite: UP minister SP Maurya's remark on Triple Talaq sparks row

Uttar Pradesh Minister Swami Prasad Maurya has sparked a fresh row with his controversial remark on the much-debated topic of Triple Talaq. Speaking at an event in UP’s Basti district on Friday , Maurya said that Muslim use triple Talaq as a tool to change wives and fulfill their sexual desire.

“Muslim Akaran, amnamne tarike se jab chahe apni patni ko talaq de dete hain. Talaq dekar wo apni hawas ko pura karne ka kaam kar rahe hain Talaq ki wajah se unke patni or bachhon ko beekh mangne ke liye majboor hona padta hai ( Muslims arbitrarily divorce their woman without any reason, With such divorces they are trying to quench their sexual appetite as a result their children and wives are forced to beg for survival)”, he said. He also said that Bharatiya Janata Party is with Muslim woman on the issue of Triple Talaq.

Meanwhile, the All India Muslim Women’s Personal Law Board (AIMWPLB) has demanded  Maurya’s resignation a day after he made a controversial statement saying, “Muslim men resort to triple talaq to quench their ‘lust’ by changing wives”.

AIMWPLB President, Shaista Amber told ANI, “Where on the one hand, Muslim women are fighting for their injustice, Cabinet Ministers like Swamy Prasad Maurya are making such obnoxious statements. He should be given strict punishment and should be sacked from his post. I would appeal to Yogi ji to sent Maurya to a mental asylum.”

Claiming that he has humiliated Muslim women across the nation with his statement, Amber appealed to the government that he should be taught how to respect women.
