One man was killed and five policemen were injured after clashes broke out between ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and opposition BJP over a Ram Navami rally in West Bengal’s Purulia district.
While on one hand, Ram Navmi turned violent in West Bengal’s Purulia and West Midnapore districts, it was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Kolkata’s Kidderpore area where people from both the communities, Hindus and the Muslims, came together to support the Ram Navami procession. In a drive that was conducted by TMC’s youth wing, Muslims brothers of the area distributed water and chilled squash to the rally-goers, presenting a unified image of the state.
