The Supreme Court on Monday issued orders to complete the trial of the 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre within six months.
Earlier on August 8, the Gujarat High Court had granted bail to Kishan Khubchand Korani, who had been sentenced to life imprisonment in association with the case in which 97 Muslims had been killed by a mob of thousands of people on February 28th, 2002.
Prior to Korani, the Gujarat special court had also granted bail to Bhartiya Janta Party MLA Maya Kodnani and her then personal assistant Kirpal Singh Chhabda.
All the convicts were found guilty of murder, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, rioting, unlawful assembly and spreading communal hatred.
