The Tamil Nadu Governor C Vidyasagar Rao has sent summons to the newly appointed legislature leader of AIADMK Edappadi K Palanisamy.
Mr Rao has given an appointment to Palanisamy at 5:30 pm where the latter will stake claim to form government.
Palanisamy was elected as the legislature leader after party general secretary VK Sasikala was convicted by the Supreme Court of India in a disproportionate assets case.
As per latest reports, Palanisamy along with a team of party MLAs has left the golden bay resort and is on his way to meet TN governor.
Palanisamy has claimed he has the requisite support of 135 party MLAs to form the government.
All MLAs have elected me as the legislature party leader, soon will meet Governor with support letter of MLAs,” Palanisamy said.
Meanwhile, supporters of acting chief minister O Panneerselvam have rejected Palanisamy’ s claim for the chief ministerial post.
Party MLA Pandiarajan, who deferred from Sasikala camp recently, said that he has no authority to stake claim to be chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
In a related development, chief minister O Panneerselvam has been expelled from the primary membership of the party.
The apex court has awarded a jail term of 4 years and slapped a fine of Rs 10 crore on VK Sasikala. The SC conviction has shattered her hopes of becoming the chief minister of Tamil Nadu.
The SC ruling bars Sasikala from becoming the new chief minister as she can not contest elections for 10 years.
