Days after the Supreme Court announced death sentence for the convicts in the gruesome December 16 gangrape and murder case, Nirbhaya’s mother has reportedly teamed up with a legal platform that helps female victims who have experienced violence. After setting up Nirbhaya Jyoti Trust, Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi has set up NyayaJyoti FoundationTrust and have partnered with LawRato to help other girls.
According to a report in News18, NyayaJyoti FoundationTrust will provide free legal assistance to this legal tech platform. The report further suggested that a number of people had approached Nirbhaya’s family to guide them through the legal process.
“I faced so many hassles during the fight for justice for my own daughter. I met many people who also had similar problems but they didn’t know where to start, legally. I don’t wish for anyone to go through what I and my family went through. This is just a small step to help them,” News18 quoted Asha Devi as saying.
Post Supreme Court’s verdict, Nirbhaya’s parents affirmed that they would continue to fight for the rights of other girls who have very little support. “I will try my best to provide all possible help to victims through the trust. Also, everyone, be it organisations, media, will have to work collectively. It is not just my fight but everyone’s fight. Until we fight together, we can not provide a safe and secure environment to our children. We have to ensure that crime against women stops,” Asha Devi had said.
Nirbhaya’s mother had also said that there was need to have dedicated courts, and trials should be conducted on the line of fast-track courts in a bid provide the much-needed justice to a number of victims.
