In a shocking incident of ‘honour’ killing, a 23-year-old Dalit man was hacked to death in broad daylight in Telangana’s Nalgonda district. The incident happened on Friday in Miryalaguda town when the victim, Peramalla Pranay Kumar was killed in front of his pregnant wife and mother.
According to a report by The Hindu, Peramalla was coming from a private hospital with his mother Premalatha and wife Amrutha Varshini when a tall man slashed his neck after which he collapsed. A 35-second CCTV footage which was recovered from the hospital captured the attack. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Peramalla belonged to the Scheduled Caste community while his wife Amrutha is an upper caste Hindu. The couple had known each other since their school days and got married against their parents’ wishes. Police have arrested her father Maruthi Rao, a prominent builder who hired a hitman to execute the murder. The girl’s uncle, T Shravan, has also been detained, reports The Times of India.

Peramalla was cremated on Sunday in Miryalaguda town where thousands of people participated in his funeral. As a precautionary measure to ensure law and order, police have deployed additional security.
Last month, the couple had visited the DSP office to invite them for their wedding reception. The police had then warned them to be careful. In March, they had called Maruthi to their office to ensure that he doesn’t resort to violence.
“He was weeping and said that he would not do such a thing, he told us that the reports about him issuing threats were wrong. No complaints nor petitions were filed with the police else we would have given police protection to the couple,” AV Ranganath, Superintendent of Police for Nalgonda to The News Minute.
A similar incident had happened in the district last year in May when Amboji Naresh, a youth from the backward community was murdered by his father-in-law T Srinivas Reddy who belonged to an upper caste. His wife Swathi, who was one-month pregnant at that time later resorted to suicide, reports The Indian Express.
