No physical document required, Mobile Aadhaar can ensure paperless entry to airports

The aviation security agency Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has recognised Mobile Aadhaar as one of the identity proofs required for entry to airports.

Air passengers need not carry any paper identity proof while entering airports across India if they have M-aadhaar, an app for the unique identification number, installed in their smartphones.The aviation security agency Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has recognised Mobile Aadhaar as one of the identity proofs required for entry to airports. Additionally, the agency also clarified that minors travelling with parents will not need identification documents, a PTI report said.

Notedly, M-Aadhaar is among the 10 identity proofs listed by the aviation agency’s, a passenger must produce for entering airport premises. Currently available on Android phones only, this syncs the user’s Aadhaar data on their mobile phone. It stores the number, address, bar code and other details and let users share profiles.

“In order to ensure that a bonafide passenger is travelling on a valid ticket issued in his/her name as well as to avoid any controversy/argument with the security staff, any of the following photo identity documents shall be carried in original,” according to the BCAS circular issued on October 26.

Besides Aadhaar and M-Aadhaar, BCAS list also includes passport, voter ID card, PAN card and driving licence. The passbook of a nationalised bank, pension cards, disability photo ID and a service photo ID card of central/state government, local body and private company will also be accepted, the circular said.

Differently-abled persons will have to furnish a disability photo ID or a medical certificate. Students also have the option to produce a photo identity card issued by a government institute
