Yoga Guru Ramdev’s controversial remarks against those who refuse to chant Bharat Mata ki Jai has landed him in trouble. A Rohtak Court on Wednesday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the Patanjali founder for his remarks at an event in Haryana last year that he could “behead lakhs of people refusing to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Harish Goyal issued the warrant against the yoga guru and fixed August 3 as the next date of hearing in the case. Earlier on May 12, the court had issued a bailable warrant against Ramdev. Before this summons were also issued to him for his remarks “for intentional insult with intent to provoke the breach of peace ”.
However, the Yoga Guru failed to appear in court on both the occassions, sunsequently the court issued a warrnat on Wednesday. “The order follows Ramdev’s failure to appear before the court yet again today. He also failed to appear despite summons and a bailable warrant,” OP Chugh, the counsel for the complainant in the case, said. Congress leader and former Haryana minister Subhash Batra is the complainant in the case . The court had directed Baba Ramdev to pay Rs 1 lakh personal surety and asked him to appear in court on June 14.
Mr Ramdev had made the remarks at a Sadbhawana Sammelan in Rohtak in April last year. He allegedly said that but for the rule of law he would have “beheaded” lakhs of people who refuse to chant ‘Bharat mata ki jai‘.
Ramdev has been vocal about his patriotism and his firm Patanjali often focus on its homegrown identity. He is also highly critical of multinational companies alleging they are only concerned about profit and do not give back to society. The turnover of his company was Rs 10, 561 crore in the previous fiscal year.
