DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin on Thursday demanded a White Paper Report on late AIADMK Chief Jayalalithaa’s death from the State Government. Stalin has also urged the Centre to submit a detailed report on the treatment given to her while she was in Apollo hospital in Chennai.
He had earlier questioned the secrecy surrounding the decisions taken at Cabinet meeting in her absence.
A local organisation named Tamil Nadu Telugu Yuva Sakthi, had recently filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a CBI investigation into the “mysterious death” of Jayalalithaa. A number of people across the nation have alleged conspiracy surrounding the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s death.
During the 74 days that Jayalalithaa was admitted to the Apollo hospital in Chennai, there was no clear information given out pertaining to her health. In fact, popular Tamil film actress Gautami Tadimalla had written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to look into who was actually making the decisions in her absence and why were people not allowed to meet her. In a letter addressed to PM Modi, Gautami raised questions about the secrecy that was maintained and the “blanketing of information”. Even her own niece was not allowed to visit her in the hospital.
“Why this secrecy and isolation of a beloved public leader and the head of the Tamil Nadu government? What/whose authority restricted access to the late Chief Minister? Who were the concerned persons who were making the decisions about Selvi Dr J Jayalalithaa’s treatment and care when her health was apparently in such a delicate state,” Gautami had asked in her letter.
Just days before the reports of her death emerged the hospital had released a medical bulletin saying that Jayalalithaa was recovering and would be able to resume office in no time.
Reports suggested that it was Amma’s closest aide, Sasikala who was taking the major decision while Amma was undergoing treatment in the hospital. However, there no confirmation on the same.
Jayalalithaa passed away on 4 December in Chennai due to cardiac arrest. Her loyal understudy O Panneerselvam has been made the new chief minister of the state.
