NSA, Gangsters Act against those involved in cow slaughter in Uttar Pradesh!

The order to take action against those involved in cow slaughter or smuggling was issued by Uttar Pradesh DGP Sulkhan Singh to all SPs, SSPs, DIGs and IGs

If a person in Uttar Pradesh is found involved wither in cow slaughter or in smuggling of cows and their progeny, they may be booked under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) and Gangsters Act. The order was issued by Director General of Police (DGP) Sulkhan Singh to all SPs, SSPs, DIGs and IGs at a meeting at the DGP headquarters on Monday. Under the National Security Act, a person can be detained for up to a year.

Officers across the state have also been intimated of the notice through a circular which states: “Take strict action against cow slaughter and smuggling of cows and their progeny for slaughter. Invoke National Security Act and Gangsters Act against those involved in such activities.”

Speaking to The Indian Express, Singh said these are general instructions that he has issued to police officers to ensure communal harmony and peace in all districts of the state. He also added that the final decision can be taken by the district magistrate and district police chief keeping the situation into consideration.

When the Singh took charge as the DGP last month, he had said FIRs should be filed against cow vigilantes and strict action must be taken against them.

As promised in the election manifesto of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Yogi Adityanath in one of his first decisions after becoming the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had directed police officials to prepare an action plan for closure of slaughter houses across the state. Following the order, several meat shops in the state were closed leading to protests across UP.
