Whatsapp video groups are the ‘in thing’ these days in all offices. Meant for passing on official information, colleagues often share jokes, general messages, videos or pictures on the social networking group. One such group was made by the Department of Food and Supplies in Haryana. However, a message sent by one of the members of the group has left the women in the department agitated.
As per a report in Navbharat Times, a porn video was circulated on the group on Tuesday creating a flutter in the office. The women officers, also a part of the group, were shocked to see the content of the video.
As per the report, the video was not shared from a junior person’s account but was sent by a senior officer. As and when the women saw the message, they started exiting the group. Soon after, the officer who ‘shared’ the video expressed regret for the same.
Along with officers from the department, the said WhatsApp group also has people from the zila level added on it. The group basically deals with sending information related to the work of the department.
Just a few days back, a similar incident happened in Kashmir when an Army officer posted porn videos on it. A report in Kashmir Life said that after sending the videos, the Army officer posted in Bandipora district left the group.
Transferring or sharing any obscene material through social networking sites including Whatsapp is a cognizable offense punishable under the law.
