'Our Legislator Is Innocent', Cry Unnao Locals In Protest March For Rape Accused

The protestors believe the whole episode was a political conspiracy hatched against their legislator

Unnao residents decided to take out a rally on Monday, April 23, in support of BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh, the accused in the rape case of an 18-year-old girl who was a minor when the incident occurred. With placards and banners in their hand, the residents marched chanting the slogan “Hamare Vidhayak Nirdosh Hai” (Our legislator is innocent).

News18 reported how hundreds of people had gathered from Bangarmau, Safipur, Bighapur and other nearby areas of Unnao to take part in the protest supporting Sengar. The protestors believed that the whole episode was a political conspiracy hatched against the BJP leader.

The rally was led by the Nagar Panchayat president Anuj Kumar Dixit, who told News 18,

“It is a political conspiracy to defame our MLA. He is innocent and being framed in false charges. We demand a neutral and independent enquiry into the matter.”

A similar rally was taken out in Kathua in support of the prime accused. Echoing the same views that the Unnao residents have, the supporters of the accused in Kathua demanded a CBI probe and claimed that the accused were being blamed unfairly.

Two BJP leaders — Choudhary Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga — had participated in the rally taken out in support of the Kathua rape accused. BJP leader Choudhary Lal Singh on Saturday, April 21, defended his participation in the protest, saying that it was meant to defuse the situation and restore normalcy, PTI reported.
