In an attempt to bring black money hoarders to book, the government on December 16 said that people can share information about those hoarding unaccounted cash on the email address blackmoneyinfo@incometax.gov.in.
As per a report, over 4000 messages have been received on the email in just three days. The allegations will be verified and are likely to give a boost to government’s efforts to bring an end to black money.
Several measures are being taken to track black money like data that is being made available to the tax authorities and other investigative agencies about bank deposits.
Raids by Income tax and enforcement directorate officials are also being conducted across the country. Not just hoarders, many bank officials have been held after they were found in possession of huge amounts of new notes.
While making the email id public, Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia had on Friday said that the messages will be monitored by a cell which will take action on the tip-offs they receive. “People can give information about those trying to convert black money into white on this email address,” he had said.
The government has stated that unaccounted income can be disclosed under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana which comes with 50 per cent tax and penalty starting December 17 till March 31.
The Revenue Secretary assured that declarations under new black money disclosure scheme to be kept absolutely confidential.
