More than 60,000 securitymen, including Delhi Police, CAPFs and NSG commandos, have been deployed in the national capital till Thursday evening due to terror threats ahead of Republic Day celebrations, officials said, adding that Police have been asked to be alert about suspicious activities.
“Security has been enhanced near marketplaces and crowded locations. Restriction on the entry of heavy vehicles also been imposed,” officials said.
“More than 200 cameras have been installed along the parade route to monitor movements,” special CP, Mukesh Meena said.
“People who have installed CCTVs at their shops and houses have been asked to keep them in good condition,” he added.
According to the media reports, snipers and spotters along with troopers from the Signals Regiment of Indian Army would be posted around Rajpath round the clock to monitor movement of vehicles and visitors.
Indian Army has also positioned quick reaction teams (QRTs) across Delhi to respond to emergencies. Indian Air Force personnel would be deployed with air defence weapons.

The visit of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is also the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE armed forces, is expected to boost bilateral ties in the key areas of trade and security.
