Overweight cop trolled by Shobha De undergoes medical treatment in Mumbai

A team of doctors have been examining Inspector Jogawat and trying to find out whether he needs a bariatric surgery or not.

A few days before, columnist Shobha De took to her Twitter account and posted the picture of an overweight police officer, Daulatram Jogawat and poked him on social media. The same police officer is now undergoing a series of medical tests in Mumbai at Saifee Hospital.

A team of doctors have been examining Inspector Jogawat and trying to find out whether he needs a bariatric surgery or not. In a statement released by the Saifee Hospital, Chairman of Institute of Minimal Access Surgical Sciences and Research Centre, Dr Muzaffal Lakdawala said, “Me and my team are ensuring that he must get the best treatment so that he could be back on a recovery path. As of now, he is going through a series of tests and we are examining whether a bariatric surgery could help him. The reports will soon be reviewed and further actions will be taken.”

On February 22, the day of the BMC polls, Shobha De tweeted a photo of an overweight police officer in an attempt to poke fun at him. The tweet said, “Heavy police bandobast in Mumbai today.” You know, just in case there was any doubt about the joke being cracked in bad taste.

In return, Jogawat also replied to the act of fun making and stated that his obesity is an impact of some hormonal disorder. News agency PTI quoted him as saying, “I am hurt with Shobhaa De’s tweet poking fun at me. I have put on weight due to hormonal disorder following my gall bladder operation in 1993.”

After these series of tweets, several hospitals came forward and extended their support to Inspector Jogawat and offered free treatment to him. Dr Muffazal Lakdswala, an obesity surgeon at Saifee hospital, reached to the police inspector himself and suggested him for consultation.
