In a bizarre incident, the body of a deceased teenager from Thane in Maharashtra, was kept in a church for 10 days after he died. Reportedly, the family was praying to Jesus and hoped that a miracle would bring their son back to life. Ambernath police were alerted about the incident which is when they decided to intervene.
Following his battle with cancer, Mishakh Navhis (17) had passed away on October 27. Instead of moving ahead with the last rites, the boy’s father, who is a Bishop with the Jesus For All Nations church in Nagpada, decided to take the corpse to church and pray to God for his life back. The family had stored the dead body in an electrical cooling unit, one meant for holding bodies, while they prayed.
After being alerted about the incident, on November 4, Nagpada police informed the police in Ambernath. They asked the family to conduct the boy’s last rites. However, reportedly, the family continued holding on to the dead body and conducted prayers for their boy to live again. The body was finally taken to Chinchpokli area of Mumbai, where the family resided, for the teen’s last rites, 10 days after he passed.
An India Today report quoted Senior Police Inspector BD Wagh from Ambernath Police Station as saying, “We got information about the prayers being conducted at the Jesus for all Nations church and accordingly a team was sent there.” He added, “The boy had died a natural death due to some ailment but the family believed he would come back to life if they prayed to God. They finally took the body to their residence on Sunday evening to carry out the last rites.”
