Pak man held for illegally crossing Wagah border ‘wanted to meet bollywood stars’

The youth was caught in Amritsar without a visa or other documents and was produced in court. Next day, he was sent to judicial custody

A 21-year-old man from Pakistan crossed over to India illegally to meet Bollywood stars. However, he was caught by Indian army  and is currently lodged in Amritsar Jail. Abdullah, who reportedly is a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan, Amir Khan and Kajol, hails from Swat in Pakistan. He left his house on May 24 and reached Wagah border the next day. While it is yet unclear, how Abdullah crossed Wagah Border and entered India, an IE report said it is likely that he crossed over the fencing behind the seating area for the evening parade on the Pakistani side. The youth was caught in Amritsar without a visa or other documents and was produced in court. Next day, he was sent to judicial custody.

“He seemed mentally unstable and innocent. He had crossed the border in the hope of meeting Bollywood stars,” Gharinda SHO Sukhraj Singh Dhillon told Indian Express. On Saturday, Abdullah’s father Zarawar Khan and his elder brother held a press conference in Mingora, Swat, appealing to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Ch Nisar to help secure his release. In a letter to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Zarawar has written that his son left home on May 24 without informing the family and that they learnt about the incident at Wagah involving their son from Pakistani television channels.

“From his childhood, Abdullah was impressed by Indian movies and was staunch fan of Indian actors Shah Rukh Khan, Amir Khan and Kajol and always wanted to meet them. We did not take it seriously as we never thought he would take such a step of crossing the border for his dreams,” Pakistan’s Dawn quoted Sardar Ali, the elder brother, and Zarawar Khan, father of Abdullah as saying.
