In a major security lapse, a passenger opened the safety door of a Chandigarh bound flight of Indigo at Mumbai airport before it could take off.
As a result, the take off was put on halt and the flight was delayed.
Meanwhile, the passenger who opened the emergency exit door of the IndiGo flight 6E 4134 has been handed over to the security staff & CISF at Mumbai airport.
“Just after the boarding got completed (while the aircraft was stationary), a passenger seated on seat number 12C suddenly opened the emergency exit door and inflated the slide,” the airline said in a statement.
“In this process, a co-passenger seated on 12A received bruises. Taking a precautionary measure, the captain immediately informed the ground staff about the situation on board and instructed the team to arrange for medical assistance and other necessary action.”
The airliner also said it has lodged an FIR against the passenger and said that the matter now lies with local authorities.
On April 1 last year, Indigo witnessed another security breach at Srinagar Airport when a senior AAI official allegedly misused his position and travelled on a boarding card of his subordinate.
More details awaited.
