A wooden replica of Ashoka Stambh fetching Rs 13 lakh and a Lord Shiva statuette being sold for Rs 10 lakh might seem a bit exorbitant. Well, that’s what these items fetched at a recent auction. Last month, the Prime Minister’s Office organised
a fortnight-long auction of gifts and mementos received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure.
Over 1800 items were sold to the highest bidders with many fecthing an auction value that was several times their base price.
A memento entitled “Divinity” from SGPC, Amritsar, was auctioned for Rs 10.1 lakh while a Gautam Buddha statue fetched Rs. 7 lakh. The amount raised in the auction will be used for ‘Namami Gange’, govt’s flagship river Ganga rejuvenation project.
