A day after Delhi’s sacked water resources minister Kapil Mishra levelled serious corruption charges against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, he took to Twitter to congratulate Emmanuel Macron, after he won the French Presidential polls.
Macron, who has never held elected office, has now been elected to one of the most powerful executive offices in the Western world, holding the top job of the second-largest economy in a troubled Europe.
The pro-European Union centrist Emmanuel Macron won the French presidency in a decisive victory over the far-right Front National leader, Marine Le Pen, and vowed to unite a divided and fractured France. Macron topped 66 per cent of the vote with the interior ministry having counted 99 per cent of the country’s 47 million registered votes counted.
“Congratulations @EmmanuelMacron . Your victory inspires all seeking inclusive, progressive ideas to take our world forward. Viva La France,” wrote Kejriwal on the micro-blogging website.

The latest Kejriwal tweet to congratulate Macron amid the corruption row wasn’t expected and as expected, it didn’t go down well with the Twitterati and the Delhi CM was trolled big time. Here’s how the Twitter users reacted:
@ArvindKejriwal @EmmanuelMacron ..sir, it’s innovative and progressive ideas to take donation process forward. Raaita La Delhi.

@ArvindKejriwal Wrong number, Arvind ji. @EmmanuelMacron is a sensible, pro-market centrist, not a freebie-promising statist like you.

Meanwhile, Mishra’s allegations against the Delhi CM, brought together warring factions of the party with MLAs, even those who had sided with Kumar Vishwas during a recent tussle, closing ranks around the AAP chief.
Kejriwal’s friends-turned-foes, Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan, appeared sceptical of the allegations, even as they compared the AAP with a “sinking ship”.
“I have known Kejriwal for 12 years and, after all these years together, it is unthinkable for me that he would indulge in corruption,” Vishwas tweeted.
Several MLAs including Alka Lamba, Adarsh Shastri, Somnath Bharti, Rajesh Rishi, who had echoed the position of Vishwas for the party’s need to introspect in the wake of poll defeats, rallied behind Kejriwal on a day someone questioned his financial probity for the first time.
