Akhilesh Yadav, the young chief minister of Uttar Pradesh feels that the days of caste-based politics in the state are over and now the demonetisation issue and development agenda will work in favour of the ruling Samajwadi Party government in upcoming crucial UP Assembly polls.
According to him, his family feud is no more a factor and all issues have been changed post demonetisation.
“Demonetisation is a thing of past now. We are working together to win the elections. Issues have changed and post demonetisation nobody remembers that (family feud) now. All the other issues have been left behind and demonetisation has emerged as the key issue,” he said.
He asserted that Uttar Pradesh will vote for his work, image and not on caste equations.
Though there’s no denying that demonetisation has caused a lot of trouble to the public, we don’t agree with Akhilesh that this issue will help him and his party to form government once again.
Here are some reasons which may go against the SP and shatter Akhilesh’s dream of becoming the CM for the second time:
‘United we stand, divided we fall’
The opposition parties or let’s say the anti-BJP forces in UP have failed to come on the same platform. A Bihar type grand-alliance has failed to materialise. The Samajwadi Party (SP), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Congress are pulling away in different directions in confusion.
With such kind of division among the opposition, the BJP won’t have to face a united opposition, hence it won’t be a difficult task for them to woo the voters.

‘PM Modi fighting corruption’
Despite facing so much trouble ever since the demonetisation move, people haven’t lost their faith in the prime minister. They believe that PM Modi is the only man in the saffron brigade who is fighting against the corruption and for the benefit of the poor.
Believe it or not, many believe that PM Modi’s intentions were right and that he didn’t even care about his party’s interests for the progress of the nation.
Muslims may also ditch the Samajwadi Party this time
SP had promised 18 per cent reservation for Muslims, which was commensurate with their population in the state. However, till date, the Muslims are waiting for their share.
Despite promising, the SP didn’t even implement the recommendations of the Sachar committee, which had painted a sorry picture of the Muslim community’s status in various parts of the country.
BJP is continuing its winning streak
The results of the Chandigarh Municipality polls has once again proved that the BJP hasn’t lost its ground due to demonetisation. The BJP-SAD alliance won 21 seats out of 26.
Earlier, the BJP had also performed well in the Maharashtra and Gujarat municipality polls.
Now time will only tell the verdict of the voters in UP, but these are the reasons Akhilesh Yadav should look out for rather than waiting to play the demonetisation card ahead of UP polls.
