Anil Baijal set to replace Najeeb Jung as Delhi’s next Lieutenant Governor

Anil Baijal will replace Najeeb Jung and be the next Lieutenant Governor of Delhi a post that fell vacant after Jung resigned.

Ex IAS officer Anil Baijal is all set to replace Najeeb Jung and be the next Lieutenant Governor of Delhi a post that fell vacant after Jung resigned in a sudden move.

President Pranab Mukherjee accepted Najeeb Jung’s resignation a week after he put his papers down. Anil Baijal is also a former home secretary in Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.

In a sudden development, Delhi’s Lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung resigned on 22 December. He has submitted his resignation to the government. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who has been a constant critic of Delhi’s Lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung on 22 December said that his resignation came as “surprise” to him. Kejriwal took to Twitter to say that the news of Jung’s resignation was unexpected and wished him well in his future endeavours.

Arvind Kejriwal has repeatedly claimed that the Delhi government fully stripped of powers and that all the power to take the important decisions were vested with Najeeb Jung. The tussle between the AAP chief and Jung has been on since the time Aam Aadmi party came into power in 2015.

It was only recently that the Supreme Court had ruled that Delhi government needed to have powers to function after Kejriwal appealed against High Court’s decision that made Najeeb Jung the administrative state.
