Anil Madhav Dave dies. From Narendra Modi to Arun Jaitley, ministers condole his death

On Anil Madhav Dave's death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called him a 'devoted public servant' and termed his death a 'personal loss'

Anil Madhav Dave, Minister of State for Environment, passed away in Delhi on Thursday. The 60-year-old was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after he complained of uneasiness. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, several ministers have condoled the death of the late leader.

Remembering him as a ‘devoted public servant’, Narendra Modi said that he was tremendously passionate towards conserving the environment. “I was with Anil Madhav Dave ji till late last evening, discussing key policy issues. This demise is a personal loss,” he said in a tweet on Thursday.

Anil Madhav Dave was a member of the Rajya Sabha since 2009. Known for his contribution to the project designed to conserve river Narmada, Anil Madhav Dave was also the founder of ‘Narmada Samagra’. He was born in Barnagar area of Ujjain district.

Just a day before his death, Anil Madhav Dave had met a six-member delegation representing those protesting against the approval given for commercial use of genetically modified mustard by the crop regulator. The late Environment Minister had assured those protesting that their grievances would be addressed on the “right platform”. Students, farmers unions and environmental activists had staged protests outside the Ministry of Environment in Delhi over the approval given for commercial use of GM mustard.
