Vipin Kumar David, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Etah’s Sadar constituency helped save a Muslim family, gravely injured in a horrific road accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway.
The MLA was on his way to Vidhan Sabha, Lucknow from Agra when he spotted a crowd around an overturned car in the middle of the road. Acting swiftly, David skipped his scheduled meetings and spent more than three hours to help the injured. He even escorted them in an ambulance to Lucknow KGMU trauma centre.
According to a Times of India report, the incident took place on July 24 afternoon near Aliyarpur Pilkhana village of Unnao district. The car in which the family of five was travelling allegedly rammed into a divider and turned turtle. One person was killed on the spot. While four others, identified as Waqar Waris, Anish, Parveen Bano, Shehzad were severely injured.
“It was shocking that people were standing near the victims, but none came to help them. Instead, they kept on dialling to emergency services. I took my guard and driver along with me and went down the roadside. We covered the injured with some pieces of clothes. We gave them water and tried to keep them in a conscious state,” said the BJP MLA, according to the TOI report.
“It took more than 45 minutes for dial 100 PRV (police response vehicle) to reach the accident spot though the local people sought assistance long before we reached there,” he added.
Speaking about the injured, he said that for him they were just humans. “It does not matter to me whether they were Muslims or Hindus. As a human being, it was my duty to save their lives,” said David.
He also raised the issue of delayed response of the emergency services and the unavailability of ambulance on the expressway.
Additional director-general of police Anil Agrawal, head of the dial 100 services said, “We are looking into the matter and will share the further details on the MLA’s accusation soon.”
