MCD election results 2017: BJP set to win big, here are 10 highlights

BJP has taken a clear lead in the first hour of counting of votes. The party is leading in 45 seats in MCD North, 54 seats in South and 27 seats in East.

Counting of votes in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections is on. The election was held in 270 out of 272 wards on April 23. The early trends suggest that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is headed towards an overwhelming majority. Staging a comeback, the Congress has pushed Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the third spot.

Though the Election Commission of India will declare the final results after 5 pm, the BJP is clearly winning these elections for third time in a row. The BJP has dominated the MCD for the last decade. In 2012, the party had won a majority in the MCD North and MCD East. In MCD South, the BJP was the largest party, but short of a majority, and partnered with Independents and others to gain control of the house.
