Congress MLA badly hurt, hospitalised after ruckus in West Bengal assembly

A massive ruckus ensued in West Bengal assembly over Property Damage bill as opposition pressed for more amendment to the bill and became unruly after the speaker overruled their demand.

Speaker suspended Congress MLA and Leader of Opposition Abdul Mannan and asked him to leave the house.

However, Mannan refused to obey the order. Marshals, later tried to force him out of the assembly but the leader sat in the assembly and soon fell ill.

He was rushed to the nearest hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

The West Bengal government has proposed an amendment to Property Damage bill that seeks to punish the vandals, rioters and arsonists from damaging public property.

The amendment proposes imprisonment up to a maximum of 7 years for damaging government property.

Earlier today, when the assembly was discussing the proposed bill, Abdul Mannan came with pictures of the assembly ransacked in the past allegedly by TMC leaders.

The speaker asked Abdul Mannan to remove the posters from his body. But he refused to do so. Later his amendments were also rejected.
