Despite facing ire from all quarters, Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad has remained unapologetic for his behaviour against Air India staffer Shivkumar saying that he was not at fault. “It was not my fault, it was his (the AI employee) fault. He should apologise. First ask him to apologise then we will see,” Gaikwad said when questioned about his behaviour in Delhi.
“I dare Delhi Police to arrest me. I will not apologise,” Gaikwad said adding that the 60-year-old Air India staffer “must know how to behave”. He also claimed that his party will stand by him.
He also stated that he went out to watch a Bollywood movie — ‘Badrinath ki Dulhaniya’ — on Thursday night to “relax” himself. “Tension-free hona chahiye na…you also watch the movie…it’s very good,” he said.
He also claimed that he had not shamed the democracy by his actions instead has made Parliament “proud”.
Taking a strong view of the incident, the Air India and the Federation of Indian Airlines have banned the MP from flying. The FIA has Jet Airways, IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir as its members. Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathy Raju has assured that action would be taken against him.
The Shiv Sena MP stated that he has had no conversation with his party chief Uddhav Thackeray since the incident and added that he has written to the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Civil Aviation Minister regarding the incident.
Gaikwad had hit a 60-year-old Air India officer with sandals over 25 times for not being given permission to travel business class in an all-economy flight. Two FIRs have been filed by Air India against the MP. The Sena too, has sought an explanation from the MP.
