A day after Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) acting president MK Stalin was detained by the police for his ‘rail roko’ agitation in favour of Jallikattu, Stalin along with DMK leader Kanimozhi held one day fast for the support of the bull-taming sports.
The on-going protest has also affected the rail schedules Chennai. Due to the protest, two trains have been cancelled one has been diverted to some other route.
Earlier on January 20, DMK announced a statewide ‘rail roko’ agitation where they will create a massive blockage around the states railway stations.
A huge crowd of people led by the DMK working president MK Stalin is staging their protest at the Mambalam railway station and MP Kanimozhi will lead the protest in Chennai’s Egmore Railway station to support Jallikattu.

Later, the Supreme Court agreed not to pronounce its verdict on Jallikattu for one week.The apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar agreed to put the pronouncement on hold on a plea by Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi who told the court that “cultural passions” were running high in the state.
Union Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad has approved the order on Jallikattu paving way to end the ongoing agitation in Tamil Nadu, Also, the Ministry of Environment has approved the ordinance and has it been sent to the President of India for his assent.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “We are very proud of the rich culture of Tamil Nadu. All efforts are being made to fulfill the cultural aspirations of Tamil people.”
However, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals and the Animal Welfare Board of India stalled the order and got a stay order from the Supreme Court.
The continuous protest for the sport has entered into the 5th day and still, thousands of people are still protesting at the Marina Beach in Chennai. The youth of the state is holding a silent protest to bring their traditional sport back.
