A chief minister holds real executive powers of the state. While there is a minimum age requirement to hold the important position, there is no specific educational qualification requirement mentioned to be the chief minister of a state. There is no age for the retirement of the chief minister.
To be a chief minister one must be a citizen of India, a member of the state legislature and of 25 years of age or more. However, India is currently run by some of the most educated chief ministers. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was a former Indian Revenue Service Officer and has also authored a book named Swaraj. He has completed Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur.
West Bengal Chief Minister is also one of the most qualified CMs with a BA, MA and LLB degree. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also holds a BA, LLB degree. Additionally, Chhattisgarh CM, Raman Singh has a B.A.M.S. degree in Ayurvedic Medicine. Meghalaya CM, Mukul Sangma is an MBBS.
