More than just a courtesy call? Shivpal Yadav to meet UP CM Yogi Adityanath today

Shivpal Yadav's meeting with Yogi Adityanath comes just days after Mulayam Singh's son and daughter-in-law Prateek and Aparna Yadav met the Uttar Pradesh CM

The elections are over but the political tempers in Uttar Pradesh are still running high. Amid the political upheaval, Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Singh Yadav will be meeting UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday in Lucknow. The meeting comes just days after Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh’s son and daughter-in-law Prateek and Aparna Yadav met Yogi Adityanath.

Shivpal has had strained relations with former UP CM and his nephew Akhilesh Yadav. The acrimony between the uncle and the nephew were out in public domain when Akhilesh had sacked Shivpal from the Samajwadi Party. He was later reinducted on the orders of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Akhilesh’s differences with Shivpal do not seem to have ended as the former Chief Minister had recently snubbed Shivpal and named Ram Govid Chowdhury as the Leader of the Opposition in the UP assembly.

Shivpal’s meeting with the UP CM also comes soon after Mulayam scolded Akhilesh claiming that no one insulted him as much as his son. Mulayam had said: “One who betrayed his father, can’t be a friend of others. I made Akhilesh the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. No father had made his son the CM during his own lifetime. And, what did Akhilesh do? He sacked his own uncle as a minister in his government. I have never been insulted so much.”

In what might be seen as a move against Akhilesh, Shivpal has also indicated that he will soon launch a campaign to unite “samajwadis” (socialists) bringing them on one platform. At the time when the rift between the uncle-nephew duo was out in the open, Shivpal had even threatened to launch a new party after the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
