Amid political turmoil in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is reportedly finding difficult to explain the source of party funding. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) party is also allegedly having issues with furnishing all the necessary documents to the Income Tax department.
According to sources close to News18, the IT department was forced to issue a showcause notice to the party which instructed the officials to appear before the authorities on May 15 along with the necessary documents. The notice added that some of them were deliberately trying to get away with submitting the documents that they have been asked to furnish.
A source from the department has told the daily that there was gross “mismatch” in the figures provided by the party officials before the Election Commission and their party website. The report further said that the party showed credit transaction of Rs 45,74,06,911 as per bank account, Rs 19,82,32,820 on the AAP website and Rs 9,42,25,475 before the EC in 2013-14.
Whereas in the 2014-15, the party showed credit transaction of Rs 65,52,40,752, as per bank account Rs 27,48,71,611 on AAP website, and Rs 32,46,16,662 before the EC. The official in IT department has told the daily the party could face serious actions if they failed to provide a concrete and substantial explanation of the source of the funding. Following these revelations, the Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to take up the matter with the EC today.
This comes days after the Central government asked AAP to furnish the details of the foreign funding. The Centre asserted that it suspected that the party may have violated the provisions of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
