Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, on January 3, announced the list of candidates for the upcoming state assembly elections in a press conference.
The BSP boss has allocated 87 Dalits against reserved 85 seats for SC/ST. As far as the upper caste is concerned, Mayawati preferred Brahmins over the Thakurs and gave them 66 tickets. The Thakurs received only 36 tickets. On the other hand, eleven tickets have been given to Kayastha, Vaishya and Punjabi community candidates.
However, the OBC candidates were pushed towards the receiving end as only 106 tickets, 7 tickets less than the 2012 state elections, were given to them.
Post declaring the candidate list Mayawati also said that the list will not change. She said,”There will be no change in the list now,” adding that BSP will contest on all 403 seats and would not ally with any other political party.
Mayawati also condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his decision of demonetisation and said that PM should seek forgiveness from the people for pushing them in stress. She said,”I urge the people of Uttar Pradesh not to listen to Narendra Modi as he has been repeating the promises made in 2014 and didn’t do anything.”
