After being denied permission on Monday, Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav today met former Uttar Pradesh minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, who is lodged in Lucknow jail currently. Yesterday, Mulayam had reportedly sought time from jail administration to meet his close aide and senior SP leader. Defining the reason behind the denial, the jail administration said that they had to turn down SP patriarch’s request because of Eid holiday.
According to a News18 report, Mulayam Singh Yadav spent one and a half hours with Prajapati inside the jail and after coming out he expressed disappointment and said that he is being treated like a terrorist inside the jail premises. He also claimed that Prajapati is innocent and has been falsely implicated in the rape case.
Prajapati was arrested after his alleged involvement in a gangrape case. The victim had alleged that the former UP minister gangraped her and sexually assaulted her daughter.
After the Supreme Court’s intervention, an FIR had been registered against Gayatri Prasad Prajapati and other accused in the case. The apex court’s direction had come on a PIL filed by a woman who had alleged repeated gangrape by Gayatri Prajapati and others and sought the court’s direction for lodging of an FIR.

Earlier a controversy had erupted after POCSO court special judge, OP Mishra, who granted bail to Prajapati was suspended and a departmental inquiry was ordered into the matter.
Notably, Prajapati is no stranger to controversies. Apart from the rape case, he has also been mired in the controversies and allegations of corruption and land grabbing cases throughout his tenure, even leading to the Lokayukta to probe a case of disproportionate assets against him. In 2014, a widow from Amethi even staged a dharna in the heart of Lucknow accusing him of land grabbing.
