Polling for municipal corporations in Nashik was held on Wednesday. Voter turnout for Nashik Municipal Corporation was 60%. Apart from Nashik, other municipal corporations for which went counting will be held are Mumbai, Thane, Ulhasnagar, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur.
As per a few exit polls, the BJP is leading in Nashik.
The BJP who fought hard against the Shiv Sena in the civic polls said that it is not averse to a post-poll alliance with the Sena if either them fall short of a majority in the municipal corporations of Maharashtra.
A senior BJP leader claimed that as per the initial assessment, the BJP would make inroads into several civic bodies but it may fall short of a majority. He also said that in some seats the Shiv Sena may need its support.
Starting his party’s campaign just a week before February 21 civic elections, MNS chief Raj Thackeray spoke about the work done by MNS-ruled Nashik Municipal Corporation and asked voters to give him a chance to replicate the ‘Nashik model’ in Mumbai. He also attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena for the “cock fight” ahead of the polls and said the voters should not fall prey to their advertising gimmick.
